Surgery Instructions

If you are arriving at Southern Illinois Pain Management, please register at the front desk.

If you are arriving at Heartland Regional Medical Center, please register at the admitting desk for same day surgery.

Bring your insurance cards and medications with you.

Someone must arrive with you to drive you home.

You may have a liquid breakfast prior to 6:00 A. M. The morning of your procedure (tea or coffee without creamer, clear juices, or plain toast).
If you are a diabetic, do not take your diabetic medication.
Do not take your pain medication in the morning, prior to the procedure, but you may begin taking it in the evening, if necessary.
Do take your heart and blood pressure medication.
If you are taking aspirin, ibuprofen or other nonsteroidal antiinflammatories, or coumadin, heparin, lovenox, or other blood thinners/antiplatelet medications, you need to stop taking these five days before your procedure, if permitted by prescribing physician. You will need to contact the prescribing physician for permission.
Following your procedure, you need to call the office to schedule your follow-up appointment, unless you have already done so.
If for any reason you need to cancel, please call our office and speak with Kelly (ext. 103).

Along with state of the art equipment and highly qualified caring staff, we wish for your stay to be relaxed and convenient. Therefore, we are requesting the following:

You will not be required to change into a hospital gown for your procedure. Please wear loose-fitting clothing (sweat suit, t-shirt, pants with elastic waistbands, as well as short sleeve shirts are preferable).
Ladies— no dresses, slips, pantyhose, etc. Please remove nail polish from at least two fingernails.
Leave jackets, hats, sweaters, jewelry, valuables, and wallets at home or with a significant other.
Significant others will be asked to wait in lobby for the patient. Please advise those waiting for you that your stay will be two to three hours.
Upon discharge your significant other will be notified and will be asked to pick you up at the rear entrance to our facility.
